In Another Life

You said you loved me,
I thought you cared,
You were the one I shared with
all my feelings and all my thoughts.
I thought I'd keep them safe with you,
but now I keep telling myself,
maybe it was a mistake
that our younger selves made.

I thought I was the one for you,
but you proved me wrong in every way.
You said I was your moon,
I closed my eyes and trusted you,
Each flaw of yours,
I turned it into perfection.
But who was I to you?

What if I had told you in the rain?
When you said I was the only one
you would ever dance with?
What if I had said
all the things I couldn't say out loud,
the things that now echo in my head?

Sometimes I wish I had said them then,
but if I had,
would you have chosen me then?
