Dream

Supna

— Supna —

Mainu supne vich disiya dada mera,
supna hi ban ke reh gaya.

Jaanda jaanda kann vich mere
gall koi mainu keh gaya.

Gall ki aakhi mainu samajh na aayi,
ki mainu jaanda jaanda ki keh gaya.

Akhiyaan vichon hanjhu digde rahe,
te dil dariya vaang vagda reh gaya.

— Dream —

My grandfather came to me in a dream,
Only to remain a dream once more.
As he was leaving,
He whispered something into my ear.
What he said, I could never understand,
Nor what final words he left me with.
Tears kept falling from my eyes,
And my heart flowed on like a river.
Author's Note I had a dream about my dadu. I was one year old when I lost him — he had celebrated my first birthday. I have no memory of his face, but in this dream he came to pick me up from school, and when I woke it was so vivid, and I felt so empty, because in the dream he had vanished. This poem came after that.
