I moved aside the
book,
and the
pillow.
Laid my head on my
mother's shoulder,
closed my
eyes,
and started to
sob.
"I don't want to go away."
"I don't want to grow up."
"I just want to stay here."
Forever,
Forever,
Forever,
I say three times,
as a prayer,
while she brushes my
hair
with her beautiful
hands.
"When people talk about the life they want,
I just listen
and never speak.
Because how could I
wish for
something I already have?"
My breath catches
in my
throat
and I taste
lemon when I
gulp.
"And all the time,
I'm scared of
losing
everything I've
got,
and everything I've ever
hoped for."
I feel the
coldness of my
tears
on my hot
skin,
like dew on a
petal.
"Please let time
stop
here.
I don't know how
I could live,
knowing my dreams
are already
gone."
"Dreams are not
a one-time thing."
She says,
tilting up my
head.
"Life is meant
for loving
and losing.
For finding
and forgetting.
Time may scare
you
but remember,
time is the reason
you're here."
