That Day Is Today

Oʻsha kun bugun
Ona koʻzlarimda nur yoʻqdir bugun,
Moviy osmonda ham qora dogʻ bugun.
Xiralik, oʻrmoniga oʻralashganman.
Shoshildim,surundim yiqildim bugun.

Yuzingga boqdim-u, holing bilmadim,
Tushimda koʻrdim-u,anglay olmadim.
Qalbimda gʻashliklar chulgʻagan zamon,
Qochdim-u, jilmadim qoqildim bugun.

Ona, sezmayapman hayot magʻzini,
Jiyda gulidagi pushti rangini.
Bilmayman kim haq-u kim nohaqligin.
Titroqman, loldirman oʻsha kun bugun.

Kecha yomgʻir yogʻdi yerni siypalab,
Bugun tongda turib,shamol quritdi.
Oʻsha yer ham bugun yangidek, koʻrkam,
Inson gunohlarin qariga koʻmgan.

Nega tinmayapti yomgʻirlar ona,
Nega ashyonida emas ular ham.
Yer yuzin sofligin bilishmayapti.
Bugun mayus ona, oʻsha bedoding,
Bugun gʻamnok ona, oʻsha yigʻloqing.

— That Day Is Today —

Mother, there is no light in my eyes today,
Even the blue sky bears a dark stain today.
I am entangled in a forest of gloom,
I hurried, stumbled, and fell today.

I looked into your face, yet failed to see your pain,
I saw you in my dreams, yet could not understand.
As unease wrapped itself around my heart,
I ran away, never smiling, and stumbled today.

Mother, I can no longer feel life's essence,
Nor the pink hues of the jiyda blossom.
I know not who is right and who is wrong,
I tremble, speechless and helpless — that day is today.

Yesterday, rain caressed the earth as it fell,
By dawn today, the wind had dried it all.
Even that same ground looks fresh and beautiful,
As if it had buried human sins beneath the past.

Why do the rains never cease, Mother?
Why, too, are they not at peace in their own world?
They do not understand the purity of the Earth.
Today, you are sorrowful, Mother, as you were then,
Today, you are grief-stricken, still weeping as before.
