ਹਵਾ ਹਵਾ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਲੈ ਜਾ,
ਖੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਨਾ ਕੋਲ ਤੇ ਭੇਜ ਜਾ.
ਜਦ ਮਿਲੇਗੀ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਤੇ ਆਖੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ,
ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਯਾਦ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਲਿਹਜ਼ਾ.
ਹਵਾ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਗਾਵਾਂ ਨਾ ਦੇਈ,
ਪਿਆਰਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ ਮਿਟਾ ਨਾ ਦੇਈ.
ਬੜੀ ਹਿੰਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਸੰਦੇਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲੀ,
ਵੇਖੀ ਕਿੱਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਨਾ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਏ ਖਾਲੀ.
ਹਵਾ ਜਾਵਾਂ ਮੁੜ ਆਈਂ ਛੇਤੀ,
ਲੈ ਆਈਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਚਿੱਠੀ.
ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੂੰ ਕੱਢ ਆਉਣਾ,
ਯਾਦਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਾਦਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਵਗਾਉਣਾ.
ਹਵਾ ਤੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਪਹੁੰਚੀ ਵੀ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ,
ਆ ਬਸ ਕਰਦੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਖੌਲ,
ਸੱਚੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿਸੀ ਨੇ,
ਈਸ਼ਕ਼ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਗ਼ਾਲਿਬ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਰੋਲ਼.

Hawa hawa sandesh lai jaa,
Kharrde ohde kol te bhej jaa.
Jad milegi usnu te aakhi zaroor,
Ajj vi yaad hai tere gall karan da lihaza.
Hawa sandesh gawa na deyi,
Pyaaran wale lafz mita na deyi.
Badi himmat naal iss sandese nu sambhali,
Vekhi kitte mera pyaara na reh jaaye khaali.
Hawa jaavaan mur aayeen cheti,
Lai aayeen us di chitthi.
Mur ke pata nahin tu kad aauna,
Yaadan wale badlaan vich kinna vagauna.
Hawa tu kad pahunchi vi us kol,
Aa bas kardi mere naal makhaul.
Sachchi keha kise ne,
Ishq ne kai Ghalib ditte rol.
Translation · English
O wind, carry my message,
Take it gently to the one who waits.
And when you meet them, tell them this:
I still remember the grace with which they spoke to me.
O wind, do not lose my message,
Do not erase the words woven with love.
Hold this letter with care and courage,
Lest my beloved be left empty-handed.
O wind, return to me soon,
Bring back a letter from them.
Who knows when you may return again,
Or how long you may drift through clouds of memory.
O wind, have you even reached them yet?
Or are you merely making a mockery of me?
Someone truly spoke the truth:
Love has undone many Ghalibs before me.
